What Is Facial Fat Grafting?
Facial fat grafting—also called fat transfer or autologous fat injection—is a surgical technique that transfers a patient’s own fat from one area of the body (such as the abdomen, thighs, or flanks) to areas of the face that have lost volume. Once harvested, the fat is carefully purified and re-injected using micro-cannulas to restore volume in the:
- Cheeks
- Temples
- Nasolabial folds
- Under-eye hollows
The transferred fat cells integrate with the surrounding tissue and develop their own blood supply, resulting in long-term improvements in contour and tone. Fat grafting also contains adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), which promote collagen production and skin regeneration, improving elasticity and skin texture beyond volumization alone.
